For this new 165-acre medical center, the program called for a 320-bed hospital and medical office building. The project was awarded LEED Gold certification by the USGBC, making it one of only 28 hospitals nationwide to achieve gold or platinum level recognition. Included in the project are an extensive network of gardens and pathways that were created in collaboration with the rest of the design team and Capital Health. The project also included three roof gardens: two extensive roofs for viewing and a therapeutic roof garden which provides both viewing interest and allows patients, visitors, and staff the opportunity to rejuvenate in a garden setting. Elegant details, such as a brick and steel pergola, sweeping paths edged in slate, and stainless steel retention walls compliment the planting palette, which incorporates rugged grasses, shrubs, and flowering trees with equally hardy sedums.
Our firm’s other responsibilities on this project included land planning, construction documentation and administration, agency approval for general land development plan, as well as coordinating engineering, lighting, and other disciplines as part of the overall project site development.
